Popular Musical Instruments During the Renaissance

The Renaissance is an important time period of history; the word means in French “rebirth” and is very appropriate to define the most spectacular historical age in Italy. Western Europe was also influenced by its main features, the revival of learning based on classical sources (Greek and Latin), and the raise of papal patronage, the development of perspective and great advancements of science. Albrecht Durer was the first to describe Italian art as “renaissance”. Giorgio Vasari, Giotto, Masaccio, Bruneleschi and Donatello are developing the painting art to the perfection. Leonardo da Vinci, great scientist, painter and sculptor, Michelangelo developed their awesome art on the desire to study the nature.
The Renaissance was a great period for music instruments. Renaissance music is represented by liturgical forms. Composers of sacred music began to adopt new forms, such as “madrigal” and use improved musical instruments of the Renaissance. Sacred new genres appeared; the madrigale spirituale, the laude, the mass and the motet. Instrumental music was composed for viol or recorder. Most popular genres were the toccata, the ricercar, the prelude, and the canzona. The great idea of polyphonies, the basic of today’s music, is coming from those great times.
The most important is that most of musical modern instruments have evolved form the musical instruments of the Renaissance. Many popular musical instruments, such as flute, oboe, trumpet, trombone and guitar can be traced back in the Renaissance. Wind instruments are really related to this period. Many musical instruments of the Renaissance were made out of wood, such as shawm, flute, recorder or sackbut. The shawm is the first oboe; it is also the ancestor of English horn and bassoon. All these musical instruments of the Renaissance were played with a double reed. The shawm produces really loud sounds, the kortholt and the dulcian too. All those musical instruments of the Read the rest of this entry »

The more you know about a music format, the better the use.
There are many different audio formats for different uses. AIFF is the best format for CD burning. WAV is the best format for perfectionist. The unique music format AAC in iTunes for Apple “i” series Players. Convert MP3 to WMA to lower the file size. Even though MP3 format files compatible with almost all the Music Player, but it’s not always our first choice format. An example: MP3 and WMA – which one do you usually choose?
As a standard for digital audio, an MP3 music track can be played on almost any player, whether it’s portable or computer-based. Whatever, it’s the most widely used music format in the world. A WMA(Windows Media Audio) file converted at the same quality as a MP3 file will be about half the size. I can get about 4 hours of music on a 128MB compact flash card using WMA formatted songs. Have tried the song at half the bit rate (128 MP3 = 64WMA). I’ve found the quality to be nearly equal at half the size. Using 64kbps, there’s no doubt, the WMA file sounds much better than the MP3 file at this bit rate, high compression ratio is its advantage. (The only drawback is that rip the MP3 file almost twice as fast as the WMA file.)
Seems WMA is not bad. Actually, 128 is its threshold of WMA, if the Bit rate is upward to 192K, MP3 will defeats WMA in sound quality. On the other hand, WMA is a highly protected format, WMA been used in Music DRM(Digital Rights Management) to avoid copyright infringement. Now, which one? It all depends. For guys who concern the size, if you want as much music on your device, WMA should be your first choice.
From above, you should know a way to choose a best format for your Music Player. The following: how to convert Audio to Audio for music player?

The 3 Places to Succeed in Popular Music

As we all know the music industry is a different beast. It takes a unique personality to be able to find success in it. Specifically you need to have thick skin, and a lot of determination. Maybe even a little bit of talent. So say you have that and want to have a career. Unfortunately (country music not included) there are really only three places you can go in the United States. These are LA, New York and Atlanta.
Lets talk about New York. What do you get besides dirty streets, and 4 distinct seasons? The city is amazingly unique and no matter what personality type you are you can probably find a neighborhood that suits you. If you can afford it and like being in the middle of everything ALL THE TIME than Manhattan is great. If your looking for a smaller simpler more relaxed environment than I would recommend Hoboken. Technically it’s New Jersey but for all practical purposes it is closer to the action of Manhattan, a 15-minute bus ride, than anywhere else in the city. Being in Hoboken you are removed from the madness of Manhattan but close enough to easily get there whenever you want, and to me this beats living in the city. All the other boroughs have their quirks and different personalities so I won’t delve into this too much.
To me LA is a place to go and visit. Being from Seattle it really bothered me when I went there that I did not see a single cloud in the sky for whole week. Other people would love this. You might think you would love it until you actually experience it and realize how surreal it is. Specifically when it comes to the music scene there are plenty of opportunities if you have the mind to take advantage of them.
Atlanta is a place that I don’t know too much about. I’ve never been to the scene but I hear it is amazing. I picture the weather to be similar to LA just a little more humid. If this is something you can deal with than Atlanta would be a great spot to Read the rest of this entry »
Duplication of your Music CD/DVD

Get Free Music For Yourself!
A lot of people may find buying an original CD of their favorite artiste a bit expensive. Most of the record label companies come out with CD’s which are prices exorbitantly. However, there are certain ways by which you can get to listen to the band new songs released by your favorite singer and one such way is music CD duplication. This is a very unique and cheap way to make sure that you get all the songs you desire and that too in half the price of the original album. What more? The quality is not compromised at all and there is no harm done to the clarity of a song as in the original CD.
What is CD Duplication?
CD duplication or disk duplication is basically a process by way of which you can create a duplicate copy of a CD for yourself. All the contents of the original CD will be copied into the new CD in the exact same manner with absolutely no change or with minimal changes that seldom hamper performance. This practice has become quite rampant as it is a relatively cheaper way to get unlimited access to the latest songs in the music arena.
CD duplication can also be a mode of income for a lot of individuals. People who are into the music business or like music and have certain know how about computer peripherals and hardware will find it an extremely profitable venture. All one requires is one or two CD copiers and blank CD’s. after acquiring the necessary things in your inventory, you can set off towards recording a completely new CD for yourself.
Is it a crime to copy music?
Even though things like CD duplication, DVD recording etc have become quite famous practices and are rampant nowadays, they are a violation of the law. This is because the record company or the artist is not going to get proper revenue on account of the fact that half of his work is being copied and not being paid for. Other than this irony, Read the rest of this entry »
Popular Music Used in Commercials

Popular Music Used In Commercials
Stop The Insanity-Hire Someone To Write A Jingle!
Many years ago, in a far away place and time, companies wishing to promote their wares on television would hire songwriters to develop advertising jingles to promote whatever they were selling. But recently, in my mind, some companies have crossed the proverbial line, so to speak, by using classic Beatles’ music to pitch their products.
Am I the only one who is absolutely appalled by the superstore Target’s use of the great Beatles’ hit entitled “Hello Goodbye” (although in the commercial they have changed it to “Hello Good Buy,” how clever). Couldn’t the corporate big wigs just hire Barry Manilow (who wrote the classic McDonalds’ jingle: “You deserve a break today”) to write a sappy jingle?
However, sadly, this trend has been used over and over again in recent years and there does not seem to be an end of it. Moreover, if I hear the Badfinger song “Come And Get It” (in the advertisement for GMC automobiles), I’ll scream!
When Michael Jackson allowed Nike to abuse the legendary hit by the Beatles’ “Revolution,” it seemed that the floodgates were opened, and an advertisement bandwagon was born. But, I am not sure that these companies realize just how many people are offended by their blatant misuse of these classic rock and roll songs.
But, apparently, these starving songwriters (or whoever owns the rights to the music) are being very well compensated for the right to use these classic songs for advertisement purposes. In fact Randy Bachman, formally of the Canadian group the Guess Who and later Bachman-Turner Overdrive, turned down a lucrative offer from a bathroom tissue company to use his song “Takin’ Care Of Business” (how clever) for a television commercial. He did, however, allow the song to be used for an Office Depot Read the rest of this entry »

“How much should I spend on radio advertising?” “How do I know I am getting the best radio advertising rates?” “What radio stations should I advertise on?” “What are good and bad radio advertising prices?” “How many spots should I air on a radio station?”
Every day at Radio Lounge, we hear radio advertising questions such as these.
Honestly, there is so much confusion about radio advertising floating around – we can’t blame you for asking these questions. Why is advertising on the radio so mysterious? The answer is – radio advertising is not mysterious. It just helps to know how it works.
Effective radio advertising relies on two major components – the message (the radio commercial itself), and the media (that the radio spot airs on).
The Message
Let’s look first at the radio commercial itself. Before even thinking about which radio stations to air on, or how much to spend on radio advertising rates, you must think about what you are going to say in your radio ad. For this article, we are assuming that all call centers, fulfillments, websites, etc. lead generation, and sales closing processes have been put in place by you, the advertiser. Creating a radio commercial that helps drive traffic is extremely important to the advertising process.
The advertising industry is full of voice talents, radio personalities, DJ’s and others, all claiming to create radio commercials. Be careful here. When entering the arena of radio commercial production, look for a radio advertising agency that has experience and a track record of successful ad campaigns. Anyone can create a radio ad, but not everyone can create a radio ad that pulls traffic. Some radio stations provide free radio commercials if you advertise on their station. Most of these free commercials are never based on strategy and are just one of several dozen commercials that have to Read the rest of this entry »
